Replacement Parts for Coleman Thermoelectric Coolers
Replacement parts for Coleman 12-volt thermoelectric coolers — the 40-quart PowerChill (3000001497 and 3000001495), the 5644 and 5645 series and the older 5640 models. Coleman has discontinued most of the original parts, so this page shows what you can still buy, the closest substitutes, and which parts are gone.
Find your model first. The model number is on the label on the back or underside of the cooler, usually a 4-digit series with a suffix such as 5644-710, or a 10-digit number such as 3000001497. Not sure which part you need? Email us the model number and we will check.
Power cords
Coleman’s current replacement cord is a single fused cord that runs the cooler in cooling mode. The older two-piece cords (3000005309 and 5010001228) had a reversible connector that switched the cooler between cooling and warming; they are no longer made. To warm with the new cord, either reverse the spade connections at the cooler end, or use the plug-in adapter in the next section.

Getting warming mode back
A thermoelectric cooler warms when its polarity is reversed. With the reversible cord gone, our cooling and warming adapter guide shows how to build a plug-in switch from three inexpensive parts, without modifying the cooler or its cord.

Running the cooler from a wall outlet
To use a Coleman cooler indoors, plug its own 12-volt cord into an AC-to-DC converter. Coleman’s own adapter (2000026568) is discontinued. Check the current rating on your cooler’s label and choose a converter with headroom above it; our AC-to-DC converters compared guide covers the options.

Fans
The outside fan is the part that most often fails. Coleman’s 5010000750 outside fan is discontinued, and no replacement inside fan is available. The fan below is a close match in size and voltage that we list as a possible replacement.

Protecting your vehicle’s battery
A thermoelectric cooler draws current the whole time it is plugged in, enough to flatten a battery overnight with the engine off. A plug-in battery saver cuts the power before the battery runs too low, and works with any cooler that uses a 12-volt plug.

Parts that are no longer made
We have not found a new source for these Coleman parts: the 5640-3721 two-piece fan set for the 5640 series, the 5010000750 outside fan, the 5640-2501 shelf, the 3000005309 and 5010001228 two-piece cords, and the 2000026568 AC adapter. Their product pages stay up so you can confirm part numbers. Looking for one? Email us the part number and we will check whether one has turned up.
